During the evening of January 20, 2016, the RCMP’s KARE ProActive Unit in partnership with Metis Child and Family Services (Edmonton), Cold Lake RCMP and Cold Lake Victim Services initiated interventions with persons involved in the sex trade in Cold Lake. Investigators identified potential victims of human trafficking through a review of on-line escort services. Meetings were set with potential victims where investigators presented themselves as police and interviewed the potential victims to ascertain if they are being exploited or at risk.
