Sturmay secures victory in Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts provincial qualifier

In a tense final at the Sentinel Storage Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts qualifier on January 28th in St. Paul, Selena Sturmay and her Saville Community Sports Centre rink secured a thrilling victory over Kayla Skrlik’s team from the Garrison Curling Club.

Trailing by a single point entering the 10th end, Sturmay’s strategic moves, guided by coach Ted Appleman, proved decisive, earning them a trip to the 2024 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Calgary.

Earlier, Skrlik’s team narrowly defeated Serena Gray-Withers’ rink in the semifinals. Micheal Laderoute of Curling Alberta praised the competitive spirit of the tournament during the medal presentation. Sturmay’s team received gold, while Skrlik’s team took silver.

The event organizers, Troy Bohn and Andrea Austin, thanked participants and volunteers, hailing the tournament as a success.

With this win, Selena Sturmay’s team will represent Alberta at the national tournament, beginning on February 16 in Calgary.
