Lac La Biche County takes in evacuees from Yellowknife

The Lac La Biche County has opened up a reception centre for evacuees from the Northwest Territories wildfires, predominantly those from Yellowknife. 

The county has prepared accommodation for up to three hundred people to stay in local hotels and motels with meals from local restaurants. Paul Reutov the Mayor of Lac La Biche County welcomed evacuees to Lac La Biche County in a statement posted to Facebook. 

“Lac La Biche County would like to extend our warmest welcome: we are pleased to be able to host you during this very difficult time.” 

The county has also sent a crew including Firefighter Nicole Cardinal, Captain Mark Wiebe, and Firefighter Leah Larocque up to assist with the firefighting efforts up north.
