Cold Lake’s Marina is now owned by the city exclusively.
Officials say the move has been in the works for over 10 years with the first steps being taken all the way back in 2011. This means the city has more control over the marina and will not need to run any ideas or changes past the federal government.
The assets acquired from the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans include the 87.0m wharf constructed of timber and sheet steel pile with a concrete deck, 254.52m breakwater, and 19m long concrete slab boat launch ramp.
Cold Lake Mayor Craig Copeland says this has been a long time coming.
“We are excited the marina has been turned over to the City of Cold Lake. We are really happy with the federal employees that worked with us for the transition and now the ownership is part of the City of Cold Lake’s assets for all of the community to enjoy.”
Copeland says the big change is the city will not need to run ideas or changes by the government anymore.
“Now that we own it we do have a long range plan to expand the marina. We can really look at the sight with a different lense and come at it with a different angle.”
The Cold Lake Marina was one of the last inland Marnia built by the federal government.
