Vermilion RCMP was called to multiple incidents involving weapons this week.
On May 20, 2023, around 12:30 a.m., Vermilion RCMP was called to a robbery against a person that had just occurred in the Town of Vermilion. Officers attended the scene and began an investigation where it was determined a weapon was involved in the robbery. Investigation identified a lone male responsible and charges were initiated with efforts to locate the suspect male.
Two days later Vermilion RCMP were called about a man who had been assaulted with bear spray in the Town of Vermilion. Police arrived on the scene and began an investigation where it was determined there were two victims and the incident also involved a home invasion.
The lone suspect male was located and arrested a short time later with Vermilion resident Andrew James Prill being charged with robbery with a weapon, break and enter to a residence, and two counts of assault with a weapon.
Prill was held for a Judicial Interim Release hearing and will appear in court on June 5, 2023, at Alberta Court of Justice in Vermilion.
Sgt. Corey Buckingham from Vermilion RCMP Detachment Commander says these two incidents, the suspect was known to the victims involved.
“Vermilion RCMP had a very busy weekend but worked tirelessly to remove this individual from the general public as soon as possible.”
