Wildcats handball team headed to provincials yet again

École Notre Dame High School’s Sr. High Boys Handball Team has claimed the Zone Champion title and is headed to provincials.

The senior boy’s team has been on a roll since 2016 claiming the title year after year. The two-day tournament had teams from Notre Dame High School, St. Paul Regional High School, Two Hills School, and Mallaig School all take part.

Head Coach Daniel Dargis says it is really nice getting back to provincials.

“The boys take handball pretty seriously and we are really competitive. We didn’t want to let the streak of the previous teams who were successful slide. We have worked really hard to keep the success high.”

Dargis, who’s manned the handball team for 12 years and has seen a gold medal streak in zone championship titles. The team will head to Lacombe where Tier Two ASAA Handball Provincials will be held starting today.

Dargis says it is exciting to see the school rally behind a lesser-known sport and the players are ready.

“They are super excited. We have been going to provincials for a long time and had a lot of success in past years and just trying to reach that mountain top one more time.”

The team has been a finalist three years in a row and placed third last year.
