Lakeland gets ready for well timed Emergency Preparedness Week

Emergency Preparedness Week could not come at a better time as Alberta is seeing various wildfires burn across the province.

This week is Emergency Preparedness Week where residents are reminded to have a preparedness kit ready, just in case of the need to evacuate. The Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority will help give tips and tools during its free barbeque at the Town Hall today from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.

The M.D. of Bonnyville is also hosting its own Emergency Preparedness Week Open House on Saturday, May 13 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m at the Ardmore Outdoor Rink 5107-48 Street. The open house will see a free BBQ from 11 am to 1 pm alongside photos with Peace Officers and Cruisers, hourly giveaways, and interactive displays for the public.

Everyone is recommended to have a personal preparedness kit and a plan with supplies to be self-sustaining for 72 hours. The Government of Alberta recommends having snacks like granola or energy bars, dried fruit or trail mix alongside water, and over-the-counter medications such as pain relievers, and cold medications.
