Cold Lake soon to be represented in space

Jeremy Hansen has been elected as one of the astronauts to take part in the Artemis ll mission which will send four members around the moon in 2024.

This will make Hansen the first non-American to orbit around the moon. The astronaut called Cold Lake his home while he became a pilot flying CF-18s. Hansen holds a Bachelor of Science in space science and was the first Canadian to be entrusted with leading a NASA astronaut class.

The other astronauts on the Artemis ll are Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christian Hammock Koch. The mission will last 10-days and lift off from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Cold Lake Mayor Craig Copeland says this is an amazing lifetime achievement.

“We are excited for Jeremy Hansen. He worked at 4 Wing and was a resident in our area for many years and became very involved in the community. It is exciting that he was selected to jump into space. It is very amazing and well deserving,“
