Bonnyville Canadian Native Friendship Centre receives approximately $44K in funding

The Bonnyville Canadian Native Friendship Centre has received a total of $43,989 in funding from the Government of Alberta and the Friendship Centre says they welcome the money.

Director of Operations for the Bonnyville Canadian Native Friendship Centre Janet Gobert says this is very exciting.

“We have seen an exponential increase in access to the food bank which is a little disheartening but with this grant money we have received we are very operational at this point but with that being said we do heavily rely on donations from the community and welcome any donations being made.“

All the funding has been marked to be used for food. Gobert says this helps a lot as she is seeing more and more community members need access to the food bank.

“We are also seeing more youths accessing more food banks services.“

Gobert says the food bank will need more assistance if this trend keeps up as the food bank on average has seen an additional 130 more hampers per month needed.

The funding was provided thanks to the Food Bank Grants and Donation Matching Grants from the government of Alberta.
