Lights on for AfterSchool Day declared by Bonnyville

April 21st has been proclaimed as Lights on for AfterSchool Day in Bonnyville.

Deputy Mayor Kayla Blanchette made the proclamation during Bonnyville’s Council meeting on April 11th. Lights on AfterSchool is a province-wide initiative, which celebrates school-age care programs and their role in keeping kids safe, inspiring them to learn, and supporting working families.

The request for support and the request for proclamation were both made by the School Age Care Directors Association. The SACDA says on its website that Lights On Afterschool is the best way to call attention to the needs of students during the hours after school. In addition, SACDA is asking the town to ‘light up’ landmarks to celebrate the event.

Deputy Mayor Kayla Blanchette agreed with the council saying the events committee might be helpful when considering what to light up in the community.

“I do like the idea of having some sort of option to light up somewhere for events such as these so that [it] could be a discussion for the future.”

Town Administration voted unanimously for the proclamation.
