Bonnyville Pontiacs eye revenge in second round of AJHL playoffs

The Bonnyville Pontiacs are set up to battle the Whitecourt Wolverines in a rematch of last year’s playoffs.

During the 2021-22 playoffs, the Whitecourt Wolverines defeated the Yaks in the first round. In the regular season, the teams clashed last in a mini-season in February where the games went one apiece.

The Yaks have been on a break since game 6 on Sunday, March 19 while the Wolverines finished their series on Wednesday, March 15. Pontiacs Associate GM Neil Langridge says the Pontiacs are ready to take revenge.

“It is a little bit of a rivalry renewed. It is going to be a fun one. We had a great season series with them so it is a team we know we have to be at our best every night when we come on against them as they are very strong.”

Langridge says the Pontiacs would love to punch their ticket into the third round of the Playoffs but need to focus on the games ahead of them.

“I think we need to take it one game at a time. The biggest thing you can’t get too high and you can’t get too low. When things go right that’s great but if you do not continue to pay attention to the details of the game and make sure you are doing the small things right playoff hockey can take off at any time.”

The Bonnyville Pontiacs will be hosting games three and four on March 28 and March 29 with tickets available for both games online.
