Crane Lake Exposed to Enbridge Pipeline Incident

Enbridge officials have continued working to justify a pipeline incident near a lake in the Lakeland. In February, freshwater was released from an Enbridge pipeline near Crane Lake, causing damages that weren’t discovered until mid-August. The company had been given the go-ahead from regulatory officials to discharge the water as part of a controlled safety test from a new line, but made an error in regards to where it was supposed to be released. The water didn’t wash directly into the 3-kilometre-long lake that’s popular to swimmers and boaters, but rather into a wetlands area and spring that feeds the lake, where discarded materials, including rubber tubing, were found. Further testing found only organic materials had been released into the lake and not hydrocarbons.
