Bonnyville celebrates National Child Day

Today marks Bonnyville’s celebration of National Child Day with a meal for families.

A soup, bannock, and cookies dinner will be available from 5 to 7 today. Families just need to come to the parent-child center for their meals.

Kim Harvie Executive Director of the Ohana Centre says National Child Day actually falls on Sunday but today seemed like the better day to celebrate.

“We are celebrating it today because most of our families are here in the center and they are coming back after a hard day of work. We are trying to give them a meal so they don’t have to cook tonight in celebration.”

Harvie says National Child Day is a day when we celebrate the children in our country with this year’s theme being children have the right to participate.

When asked what type of participation Harvie said in every aspect.

“Children have the right to participate in activities such as play, family, culture, and learning.”

Harvie is excited to see families today and welcomes everyone to the table.
