Upgrades at outdoor rinks in Cold Lake

The City of Cold Lake upgrades to the outdoor rinks are set for completion before the skating season.

The Nelson Heights outdoor rink had the old change rooms and warm-up shack demolished and replaced with a brand new structure. The new shack will hold a Zamboni and provide skaters with a place to change. Nelson Heights rink will also see the puck boards replaced and the lighting system upgraded.

The south rink, located by the Holy Cross Elementary School and the Nelson Heights rink will both be getting basketball nets installed, so that they can be used as multi-court surfaces in the summer.

Cold Lake Mayor Craig Copeland says these upgrades will ensure that the well-used outdoor rinks see many more years of recreation

“The upgrades will also increase the facilities’ usefulness as venues for multi-sport, unscheduled and unprogrammed recreation that is available to all residents.”

While the weather has been cooperative and upgrades are currently on schedule for completion, the public is reminded that supply chain issues have not been completely resolved and delays due to the availability of material or due to inclement weather remain a possibility.
