Lac La Biche wins Award of Excellence

Alberta Recycling Management Authority has recognized Lac La Biche County as a 2022 Collection Site Award of Excellence winner.

The winners are chosen for dedication to meeting all collection site grant requirements including convenience and access for residents’ and businesses’ use.

Manager of Environmental Services Molly Fyten says Lac La Biche County takes pride in the way they operate and manage recycling and waste programs for our residents and businesses.

“We are also proud to be leaders in this field. Our hope is that we see growth in the use of these programs each year and greater acceptance of them by everyone.”

Lac La Biche County also regularly submits Electronics and Paint Municipal Collection Funding Request reports to ARMA which was also a factor considered for the award.

Here is the comprehensive list of other features collection sites require to be considered for the award:

  • Being registered with Electronics, Paint, Tire, and Used Oil Materials Recycling Programs, having program signage provided by ARMA installed, ensuring safe and proper handling of materials, securing materials properly to prevent theft, scavenging and vandalism are among the bigger requirements.
  • Convenient and accessible sites for the public, conducting unit counts of electronics, keeping eligible and ineligible materials stored separately, and maximizing the capacity of paint bins.
  • Provisions for spill prevention and sound practices surrounding the prevention of groundwater contamination at used oil collection sites.

Lac La Biche County Environmental Services Team was recognized with the award at the recent Alberta CARE conference hosted in Leduc in September.
