Remembrance Day Ceremonies Held Across Lakeland

Thousands of Lakelanders and millions more across Canada honoured the sacrifices made by the nation’s military for Remembrance Day. In Cold Lake, Imperial Oil Place was filled to capacity with military and civilians alike. A marching band and a contingent of personnel from 4 Wing participated in the ceremony. As well as honouring the dead and wounded of war, some time was given to remember those who parished during training. Among the honoured guests was Barb Pitchard, whose father died while on training mission with the airbase in 1955.

Remembrance Day remains as important to Canadians as ever. A recent survey showed that 79 percent of Canadians planned to wear a poppy this year and 77 percent observing the two minutes of silence.
