2015 One of the Worst Wildfire Seasons in Albertan History

The Cold Lake Air Weapons Range was far from the only part of Alberta to be hit by wildfire this year.

The 2015 wildfire season was one of the province’s busiest on record according to Forestry Minister Oneil Carlier. Over 17,000 fires burned across the province, the most in 25 years. The Air Weapons Range Fire was one of 64 fires to reach over 200 hectares in size, reaching over 20,000 at its peak. In total 47% of the fires were thought to be caused by lightning and 53% are believed to have been caused by humans.
