Mayor of Cold Lake Craig Copeland is disappointed after a letter to the editor written by Gene Sobolewski on Monday.
In the letter, Sobolewski says he’d like to see Bonnyville and other communities get a slice of tax revenue from the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range. However, all the municipal governments in the region except for Cold Lake opted out of the discussions with the province that eventually resulted weapons range deal being signed.
Copeland says he might agree to a deal that sees funds distributed to other communities, but only in the context of some form of regional government, not simply handing over a portion of revenue to another municipality. He also expressed his disappointment at not being aware of his fellow mayor’s thoughts until reading the paper that morning.
