Number of farms decreasing in Canada

Statistics Canada says the number of farms in the country is dropping.

According to the organization there are 74-thousand fewer than just over twenty-years ago. The data, taken from an agricultural census, also says the average size of a farm has grown from 80-hectares to 315 in that time. The typical age of operators has gone from 47 to 54-years-old, with barely under-one-in-ten farms run by someone younger 40.

Statistics Canada says the trend is touching British Columbia and the Atlantic Provinces in particular.
