More job protection for Albertans

Albertans now have more time and more job protection if they need to leave work to care for a sick family member.

Employees taking compassionate care leave can take up to eight weeks of  unpaid leave and return to the same or similar position, just like new mothers after maternity leave or armed forces reservists when they return from duty.

Employees must have worked at least 52 weeks for their employer to be eligible for compassionate care leave and the eight week leave can be split into two parts but must be taken within a 26 week period.
