Unemployment rate shows bad news for province

The unemployment rate for the Lakeland has dropped a bit but the province saw a bump, says Statistics Canada. The new numbers were released Friday and show Wood Buffalo – Cold Lake sitting at 4.3 percent for the month of November.

That’s an almost 1 percent drop from October and a 2 percent decrease since August. Meanwhile, Alberta itself saw 18,000 jobs lost last month and a provincial jobless rate at about 7.2 percent. Alberta, B.C and Quebec were the only three provinces to see their unemployment rate rise last month.

The country, on the whole, saw a slight dip last month, going from 5.5 percent to 5.2 percent. Stats Can says the highest rate of unemployment in the province belongs to Edmonton, currently sitting at around 7 percent.
