Family Resource Network rolling out in 2020

Bonnyville could be a hub for a new provincial initiative that will take over funding from Parent Link. FCSS Director David Beale made a presentation to town council Tuesday on the proposed Family Resource Network being rolled out by the UCP government.

The FRN would offer about $500,000 every year in funding to regional hubs for programming and services to children aged 0 to 18. Bonnyville is in a proposed area that includes St. Paul, Elk Point and Glendon. Cold Lake has been placed in a different hub that includes Lac La Biche and Athabasca County.

The hub municipalities would be required to make sure service is delivered across the region and budgets are monitored throughout the year. Funding from the government is expected to start April of 2020,

Council voted to go ahead with an “expression of interest”, which will allow them to learn more concrete details about the program later on down the road.
