MD looking towards updated livestock emergency preparedness

The MD of Bonnyville is working towards protecting livestock in the area. MD council announced it will be looking for a grant to help with emergency preparedness planning for animals.

The livestock emergency response strategy currently in use is about five years old. It’s used by officials during instances of fire, weather or even disease outbreaks.

An updated plan would cost about $50,000 with half of that being footed by the MD while the other half would be covered by the grant, which is covered by the Canadian Agricultural Partnership.

The MD says it wants to hear from area farmers during the process to gauge where they stand on the current and potential ideas.
