Alberta Mounties are reminding drivers to keep a close eye on their vehicles in the colder months. Police say as the temperature drops around the area thefts of vehicles go up.
33% of the thefts come from drivers leaving there vehicle idling and unlocked while it warms up. Mounties say some tips to make sure cars aren’t stolen include using a steering wheel lock or investing in an automatic car starter that keeps the doors locked while it warms up.
Leaving spare keys around the property may also lead to a stolen vehicle.
The RCMP says if it looks suspicious it probably is and should be reported to your local police.
