Operation Red Nose looking for volunteers

A popular way to get you and your vehicle home this holiday season is gearing up once again. Operation Red Nose in Cold Lake is looking for volunteers to join up and make sure residents celebrating the holidays get home safely.

This is the first year the Cold Lake AG Society will host the program. President Dustin Foulds says he has about three weeks to get volunteers before they can start offering the rides home.

“We are open for business November 29th and 30th. It’s our very first weekend.”

Volunteers are needed to drive home vehicles, follow the vehicle and help navigate. Foulds says anyone interested has to fill out a paper that goes back to the RCMP.

“It’s an application form. It tells us the day your available or would like to volunteer. It tells us what kind of position you’d like to volunteer in. It also gives us access to get a criminal record check done.”

The program is expected to run until New Year’s Eve. Foulds says he’s hoping to get a number of volunteers looking to help.

“In the last couple of years, we’ve had between 50 and 70 [volunteers]. I would prefer to have 70. It gives us just a little easier time filling out positions.”

More information on Operation Red Nose is on their official website.
