Well workshop looking to give landowners water skills

A properly working water well can be essential to the acreage or farm and a Lakeland agriculture group is hoping to teach some skills to keep wells humming along. The Lakeland Agriculture Research Association is hosting a “Working Well Workshop” on Tuesday evening at the Bonnyville and District Centennial Centre.

The evening will feature expertise from Alberta Environment and Parks and tips and tricks to keep the wells safe and flowing. Environmental Program Manager Kellie Nichiporik says they’ll be covering the do’s and don’ts.

“Well maintenance. How to prevent common issues. We’ll go through the 10 most-common well problems and how to work through them. We’ll also talk about how to properly shock chlorinate your well.”

The night starts at 6 PM and a supper will be provided for guests. Nichiporik says by the end of the night, landowners can go home and test their own water.

“We’ll go over how to properly sample your water to monitor and ensure good quality water. We’ll end it by giving out sample bottles at this workshop so everyone can test their well water.”

The workshop is free. Anyone interested in attending can head online to the LARA official website or call them at (780) 826-7260
