Bonnyville RCMP bringing back Halloween Safety Program

Little ghouls and goblins are invited to make their way to the Bonnyville RCMP detachment for a special event Thursday. The RCMP is hosting the second annual Halloween Safety Program party that will see kids talking with officers, meeting Odie the Victim Services Dog and taking home a pumpkin filled with goodies.

The party is the brainchild of Constable Megan LeTang. She says last year’s debut was a huge success and more goodies for the kids are being planned.

“Last year was extremely successful. We had all the products donated by community businesses. This year, the same businesses donated more and we’ve upped it to 350 pumpkins.”

The event starts at 4 PM and runs until 6. All kids are encouraged to come out dressed in their costumes. Included in the pumpkin is a pamphlet on safely enjoying Halloween. LeTang says parents should go over some basic rules with their young trick-or-treaters before they go out.

“Keep to streets that you’re familiar with. Don’t go up to houses with the lights not on. Don’t walk across lawns because you never know what obstructions could be playing on them and don’t approach dogs if you don’t know them.”
