The shutdown of a pair of highway rest stop bathrooms in the Lakeland is making waves. The bathrooms, located at Highway 36 near Vilna and Highway 881 close to Lac La Biche, were shut down earlier in the month by the Alberta government as a cost-cutting measure.
The Alberta Motor Transport Association says the closures come as a disappointment. The group is calling on more facilities to be built for commercial truck drivers.
Despite the bathrooms being closed, the roadside rest stops are still open for use.
