Flu shots back again in the Lakeland

Flu shot season has arrived once again in the Lakeland. The Influenza vaccine is available from a range of sources including clinics at places like the AG Society in Cold Lake and your local doctor’s office and pharmacy.

Bob Mattice is a pharmacist and owns the Tri-City Mall Value Drug Mart in Cold Lake. He says a flu shot not only helps yourself but helps people who may have a weakened immune system.

“You’re protecting yourself from getting the flu but also protecting others that are more vulnerable from getting the flu, be that young people or Grandma and Grandpa or people being treated with chemotherapy or something like that.”

The vaccine this year is formulated to fight the strain of flu thought to hit Canada the hardest. 1.3 million doses of the vaccine were administered during the last flu season.

Mattice says the shot is easy for anyone who may have reservations when it comes to needles.

“We’re nice, calm, cool and collected. We take our time. We ask if a person is nervous getting a needle and there are ways of working with that.”

A full list of clinics is available online.
