Lakeland-based film ready for silver screen October 25th

A film featuring the backdrop of the Lakeland is getting ready to be shown on the big screen. “Moments in Spacetime” was filmed around Cold Lake and Bonnyville this spring.

The movie was directed by local Chris Cowden and features Lakeland actor Patty Srisuwan and Hollywood star John Rhys-Davies. Cowden says the setting of his own backyard was a logical choice.

“We picked some locations that we thought would look beautiful on-screen and showcase the Lakeland in an interesting way and kind of ‘create’ an environment for our characters to act in.”

Srisuwan plays an adopted immigrant child taking care of her dementia-ridden grandfather, played by Rhys-Davies. Cowden says the local area is not only a setting but also an important character in the production.

“The way we wrote it, we would have to film it here. It takes place in a prairie community that has a military base in Canada.”

The movie will be showcased at the Grand Square Cinema in Cold Lake starting on October 25th. Cowden says the movie will run for at least a week but could see other showings in the future.
