Statue will serve as reminder of internment camps

A statue depicting a dark time in Canada’s history is set to be unveiled in the Lakeland. On Saturday in St. Paul a monument to commemorate the Ukrainian internment camps during World War One will be dedicated at Legasse Park.

The monument, entitled “21 Strands”, was a co-operation between the Ukrainian Canadian Civil Liberties Association and other partnerships. The day will feature the unveiling as well as remarks from Mayor Maureen Miller, laying of wreaths and other ceremonies.

A presentation on the subject of Eastern-European internment is also set to take place on the same day at the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario.

The ceremony begins in St. Paul at 11 AM.
