A popular way to raise funds and awareness in the fight against domestic violence is returning to the Lakeland. The Doctor Margaret Savage Crisis Centre will be hosting their third “Walk A Mile in Her Shoes” event in Cold Lake on September 28th.
Local men will be donning the famous red high heels at the old Lake City Motors dealership downtown. DMSCC resource development coordinator Cindy Yang says that’s the starting line for this year’s festivities.
“Then we will do the walk downtown, a lap in those fancy red heels for our walkers. We’re also really fortunate to have some of our local agencies come out and put up some booths and some information.”
A barbecue by donation provided by Hamel’s Meats is also on the schedule. Yang says all the money taken in will help the centre with their current operations as well as some new ideas.
“We have our helpline and our ongoing programs such as our community kitchen so all of the money that is raised will be going back to it.”
