Michelle Schweigert’s Sentencing Delayed

A Cold Lake Women Who Pled Guilty in a Child Abuse Case Has Had Her Sentencing Delayed. Michelle Schweigert pled guilty earlier this year of aggravated assault on her then boyfriend’s 2 year old daughter.

The girl, now 3 years old sustained substantial abuse which included visible bruising to her face, legs, and arms, was air lifted to Edmonton in December of 2013 to receive treatment at the Stollery Children’s Hospital, after police responded to a complaint from family members that the child had been abused. The judge in the case delayed sentencing to allow for a more definitive prognosis on the child who is in a wheelchair following the incident. The judge would like time to determine the long-term affects of the injuries, such as, whether or not the child will walk again. Schweigert’s case has been pushed back to December 15th, 2015.

The girl’s father, Kyle Gurney is schedule to be sentenced on Monday, August 31st after he pled guilty to failure to provide the necessities of life.
