Breast cancer screening coming to Elizabeth Metis Settlement

Elizabeth Metis Settlement women will soon be able to test for breast cancer in their own community.

Alberta Health Services Screen Test program is bringing a mobile mammography trailer to the Elizabeth Settlement Community Hall on October 3.

A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast and is the most effective way to detect breast cancer. Women between the ages of 50 and 74 are most at risk of developing breast cancer. Alberta Health Services says early detection allows for a greater number of options for treatment and a better chance of survival.

Screen Test provides access to cancer screening for hundreds of women in 120 rural Alberta communities where mammography is not readily available.
