SPERD changing name after education amendment

Regulation changes in education around the province are changing some names of school boards, including one in the Lakeland. The formerly known St. Paul Education Regional Division #1 confirmed at their August 31st board meeting that new changes by the UCP government mean they’ll now be known as “St. Paul School Division”.

Name changes aren’t the only thing different after the amendment came into force on September 1st. A universal Kindergarten entry age has been set. Starting next year, children will have to be 5 years old on or before December 31st to register for Kindergarten.

The school board says the lack of a concrete provincial education budget means they’re in the dark when it comes to certain grants, including the school nutrition program. The board says for the time being, that program will continue.
