Work has begun on a brand new high school in Frog Lake. The First Nation celebrated a sod-turning ceremony on Friday for their newest school.
The state-of-the-art facility is expected to host around 200 students when it opens. Canadian Minister of Indigenous Services Seamus O’Regan says he’s excited for the new addition.
“We are committed to closing the education gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples, and we are working closely with First Nations partners to do so. I want to congratulate Chief Desjarlais, Frog Lake First Nation and the current and future students who will benefit from this new school that will help give them the best possible start in life. Every student deserves to study in a clean, safe, and comfortable environment that will set them up for success now and in the future.”
The new building means Chief Napeweaw Comprehensive will become an elementary/junior high school. Construction is expected to finish up in March 2021 with the first students in by Fall of that year.
