Oil Curtailment ’till 2020: UCP Energy Minister

The oil curtailment program will continue, says the Alberta government. UCP Energy Minister Sonja Savage announced Tuesday that curtailment will continue until December of 2020. Factors like the lack of development in pipelines and growth in the sector were given for the decision.

Under a new formula, the new curtailment limit has been increased to 20,000 barrels per producer per day. Savage says the new rules will affect 16 oil companies, while the old rules put 29 producers under the program.

The new formula comes into effect in October. The original curtailment program was announced back in December of 2018 and saw backlash from some oil companies, including Imperial Oil who has operations in Cold Lake.
