Cold Lake the latest in Blue-Green Algae struggle

Blue-Green Algae warning continue to pop up around the Lakeland and now Cold Lake is no exception. Alberta Health Services confirmed Friday afternoon that certain spots on the lake had the algae blooms.

AHS says people who come into contact with the algae can develop symptoms including sore red eyes, swollen lips, fever, nausea and vomiting. Visitors and residents are reminded to never drink or cook with untreated water directly from any recreational body of water, including Cold Lake, at any time. Boiling of this water will not remove the toxins produced by blue-green algae.

AHS says people can safely consume fish fillets from Cold Lake. Moose Lake and Chatwin Lake were both confirmed last week to also be having struggles with the algae.
