Cold Lake Hornets taking off in WSHL

The name will be a familiar one for the newest Junior A -level hockey team in Cold Lake. The Western States Hockey League has announced that the Cold Lake Hornets will play out of the Energy Centre. The club will bear the name of the main fighter jet of the Royal Canadian Air Force, the CF-188 Hornet, housed at nearby 4 Wing.

The Hornets will share a building with the Cold Lake Wings, who left the WSHL in the offseason and joined the Greater Metro Hockey League. Both leagues are not affiliated with Hockey Canada.

The team will face off in 2019 in a provincial division for the league that also features clubs in Meadow Lake, Edson and Barrhead.
