Bus Service By The End of July in Cold Lake

Residents should see bus service in Cold Lake by the end of the month says Mayor of Cold Lake Craig Copeland. “People who have driven around The City of Cold Lake have seen the bus stops being put in place, the signage, the cement pads,” the Mayor explains, “we hope to have the free transit running by the end of July.”

Mayor Copeland says The City is finalizing the drivers’ contracts right now, “the bus drivers will be a third-party service and we’re just finalizing the legal contracts with the different lawyers involved.”

Mayor Copeland hopes to see a lot of people utilize the service as their regular transportation of choice.”We’re going to run it free for the entire 2015 season.” Council will review how many people use it and take that into consideration for planning the 2016 budget, “we want to see how many people use it and look into whether it’s going to be a toonie, or what it’s going to be.”

There will be two buses running on the route, one north and one south. They’ll meet in the middle at the TriCity Mall. Mayor Copeland says the route in whole, “will roughly take an hour.” Mayor Copeland says The City, “is really encouraging people to look at it as an alternative to get to work each day.”
