ASIRT investigation clears St. Paul Mountie in 2017 shooting

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team has cleared an RCMP officer after a shooting in the Whitefish Lake First Nation back in 2017. ASIRT says a St. Paul mountie was called out to the area on September 6th, 2017 after someone reported that a member of their family was acting irrationally.

The man reportedly tried to attack some other residents on a road in the area. An RCMP member arrived on the scene and was confronted by the man, who was carrying a knife. After refusing orders to drop the blade and moving towards the officer the man was shot twice. He later died.

ASIRT says the officer acted within his legal rights in connection to the shooting. Charges will not be laid in connection to the death.
