Lakeland under heat warning to start the week

The Lakeland will be getting a blast of hot temperatures to start the week. On Monday Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a heat warning for the area as well as a good chunk of the province.

They say a ridge of high pressure will continue through the area and bring with it warm air, pushing daytime temperatures into the 30s for the next two days. The warm weather brings an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

Residents are advised to take the following precautions:

– Consider rescheduling outdoor activities to cooler hours of the day.
– Take frequent breaks from the heat, spending time indoors in cooled buildings such as malls or indoor pools.
– Drink plenty of water and other non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated beverages to stay hydrated.
– Check for your children or pets before you exit your vehicle. Do not leave any person or pet inside a closed vehicle, for any length of time.
