Jennie’s in the hunt for sweet victory

A local bakery is looking to pick up a sweet national title. Jennie’s Diner and Bakery in Bonnyville is currently in the running to be named “Sweetest Bakery in Canada”. The contest gives Canadians the chance to vote on which shop satisfies their sweet tooth the most across the country.

Owner Jennie Hamel is thrilled to have been nominated for the award.

“Being nominated is an honour. That just means that somebody out there likes what we do.”

Jennie’s opened their doors five years ago and features a full bakery as well as breakfast and dinner options. The diner has won awards in the past, taking home a Lakeland Business of the Year award in 2015 for “Most Promising New Business”.

Hamel says the last five years have seen a lot of support from the community

“We’ve had a great response from the community through all the advisory we’ve had. Through governments and road construction and recession, people have come out and supported us, which is amazing.”

Voting ends on the Sweetest Bakery in Canada contest on September 30th. Voters can head online to learn about the different ways votes can be cast.
