LLB Pow Wow Days ready to go sans fishing derby

Many around the Lakeland will be heading to Lac La Biche as they get set for Pow Wow Days. The celebration in the hamlet is set to kick off Thursday. 2019 Lac La Biche Pow Wow Days President Lavon Fleming says Thursday night has a special Seniors Fish Fry in the works.

“This is where we honour our senior citizens as well as “Citizen of the Year” for their commitment to the community in terms of volunteering and instilling and enhancing community pride and spirit.”

Midways, water-bomber demonstrations, slow pitch and nightly entertainment will help celebrate the 2019 event. One thing that is missing from the schedule of events is the large fish derby. Once a staple of the celebrations, Fleming says new fishing regulations surrounding Lac La Biche along with discussions with Alberta Fish and Wildlife meant that this year had to be scrapped.

“It was shared with us that the only species we would be able to fish would be the Perch.”

Fleming is hopeful changes in the fishing regulations will mean it’s a temporary exclusion. Pow Wow Days runs until July 14th. More information on the celebration is on the official Facebook page.
