Tornadoes on Cold Lake, Meadow Lake over the weekend

It was a long weekend filled with extreme weather in some parts of the Lakeland. Weather warnings began on Friday evening with a tornado warning just east of Lac La Biche. A system was tracked headed eastbound towards the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range.

A waterspout tornado was spotted on Cold Lake later that evening. Environment and Climate Change Canada says the wind speeds were recorded around 105 km/hr, putting the tornado at an Enhanced Fujita scale rating of 0. No one was hurt.

On Saturday another tornado struck in Meadow Lake Provincial Park, about 90 kilometres east of Cold Lake. Holiday trailers, trees and other structures were damaged or outright destroyed. Three people were reported to have been injured, but no deaths.

Environment and Climate Change Canada’s Prairie and Arctic Storm Prediction Centre is investigating the storms.
