The Saddle Lake Cree Nation has a new Chief. On Thursday officials in the band announced that Eric Shirt had been named chief after the election held on June 19th.
Shirt received 348 votes, 55 more than incumbent Eddy Makokis. Makokis had been serving as chief since 1997. 1003 votes in total were cast.
Councillors were picked in a separate election held back on June 12th.
