2015 Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby – Calgary, AB
It was another record breaking night number five at the Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby, as for the second time in three days, Jason Glass established a track record with a super fast time of 1:08.75.
From barrel number 2 in the final heat of the evening, Glass, driving The Cowboys Casino Posse outfit, bettered his own track record time set on night 3 by 63 one-hundredths of a second. Mike Vigen was second to Jason Glass’ track record once again, with Evan Salmond, Colt Cosgrave and Vern Nolin rounding out the top five times on the night.
After five runs, defending GMC Rangeland Derby Champion Kurt Bensmiller continues to lead the overall aggregate standings with a five run total of 5:56.11. That puts him a whopping 70 one-hundredths of a second ahead of former finalist Mike Vigen, with Vern Nolin, Colt Cosgrave and Jamie Laboucane making out the top five, with Logan Gorst, Jason Glass and Kelly Sutherland completing the top 8 trying to get into the semi final round. Luke Tournier and John Walters are on the outside looking in, sitting in 9th and 10th place respectively.
The Richard Cosgrave Memorial Trophy, symbolic of the Calgary Stampede aggregate winner will be declared after 8 nights on Friday, July 10, and the top 8 in the aggregate on that day will go into “Semi Final Saturday.” The top 4 times from the two semi-final heats on semi on Saturday on July 11 will go into the winner-take-all championship final heat. The winner of the final heat will be declared the 2015 Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby Champion.
