Trans Mountain approved as fight on C-69, C-48 continues

The $7.4 billion Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion will be built, says Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. That was the announcement Tuesday afternoon from Ottawa. The federal government has concluded that building the pipeline is in the best interests of the country. This is the second time that the feds have given a thumbs-up on the project.

Meanwhile, the fight to sway the decision on Bill C-69 and C-48 is in full swing. On Monday MD of Bonnyville Reeve Greg Sawchuk released a statement urging residents to start a letter writing campaign to their local MPs. Sawchuk says he hopes the eastern part of the country will see the potential damage the two pieces of legislation could do to the region.

A definite date for construction on the pipeline expansion was not given but officials say they’re hopeful work will begin this year. Trudeau has pledged that profits from the pipeline will go towards clean energy projects.
