Bill C-48, C-69 brings out calls for change from Lakeland politicians

Lakeland politicians are coming out against the potential consequences of Bill C-48 and C-69. On Tuesday evening Cold Lake City Council voted unanimously to continue calling on the Canadian Senate to try and dismiss the legislation or accept it with all amendments.

Bonnyville town council passed a similar motion on Tuesday evening. Council says they talked with Senator David Tkachuk where he explained that the Liberal Government may reject amendments made to the bill from concerned oil and gas industry leaders and Conservative politicians. That prediction was found to be true on Wednesday after the federal Liberals accepted 99 of the 188 amendments.

Premier Jason Kenney has said if Bill C-69 were to become law he will move forward with a constitutional challenge.
