Winds not helping Pelican Point blaze: BRFA

The Bonnyville Fire Authority says they are fighting with the Tuesday winds when it comes to the fire near Pelican Point. Fire officials released an update this afternoon saying they have held the fire to 110 hectares but winds are pushing small spot fires over the fire breaks north and south of the blaze. The fire is still considered under control.

All of the campgrounds in the area have been shut down and evacuated, including the M.D.’s Pelican Point campground, the Franchere Provincial Recreation Area, and private campgrounds. There are a couple of residents in Franchere that have also been evacuated.

Two more aircraft are currently on the way to help fight the fire. Water bomber traffic is expected to be high around Moose Lake. The boat launches at Vezeau Beach, Turcotte, Birch Grove, Bonnyville Beach and North Shore Heights are closed.

Range Road 474 remains closed at Highways 28 and 660.
